Why choose a dedicated server in Germany?

DE-CIX connectivity, data sovereignty and honest pricing

Frankfurt is the largest internet exchange point in the world (DE-CIX). From the FRA datacenter, your servers benefit from world-class connectivity and ultra-low latency to the German market and Central Europe — typically sub-2 ms to other Frankfurt-hosted services and sub-15 ms to Paris, London, Warsaw and Vienna.

The German audience particularly values data sovereignty and GDPR compliance — hosting in Frankfurt makes both default. The datacenter is ISO 27001-certified and operated by OVHcloud directly.

Pricing: what does a dedicated server in Germany cost?

A Kimsufi dedicated server in Frankfurt starts at $44.39/month. The entry tier covers a 4-core/8-thread CPU with 32 GB ECC RAM and an NVMe SSD — enough for a busy website, a small database or a build box. From there, the SYS and Rise ranges scale up to 12-core Xeon Gold and AMD EPYC processors with up to 1024 GB of RAM and multiple NVMe drives, still at eco pricing. Setup fees are currently waived on most plans — the price you see is the price you pay.

For comparison, a well-equipped German competitor box (Hetzner EX44: i5-13500, 64 GB, 2×512 GB NVMe) lists at around €39/month. At the entry level Kimsufi undercuts it while including Anti-DDoS protection and 500 Mbps unmetered bandwidth; at the upper end, Rise servers deliver enterprise-grade Xeon Gold hardware that entry-level competitors simply do not offer.

1 Gbps bandwidth, unmetered

Bandwidth is unmetered on every Frankfurt server: no surprise egress bill, no throttling after a quota. The KS budget range ships 500 Mbps guaranteed; the SYS range ships 1 Gbps; the Rise range ships up to 3 Gbps. Whichever you pick, vRack private networking is available to link your Frankfurt servers to OVHcloud infrastructure across Europe.

DE-CIX connectivity and latency

The FRA site sits at the heart of the German internet ecosystem with direct DE-CIX peering and exceptional carrier diversity. It runs OVHcloud’s standard hardware platform. Frankfurt is also a strategic gateway for routing traffic between Western and Eastern Europe, with sub-15 ms latency to Paris, London, Warsaw and Vienna.

What does that mean in practice? If your users are in Germany, your server answers in single-digit milliseconds from most German networks — DE-CIX aggregates the traffic of hundreds of German and international carriers, so the path between your server and your visitors is short and direct. Typical round-trip times from FRA: 1–2 ms within Frankfurt, 8–11 ms to Munich, 10–14 ms to Paris, 12–15 ms to London, 15–20 ms to Warsaw and Vienna, 25–35 ms to Stockholm and Milan. For a game server, a trading application or an API with strict SLAs, that is the difference between a responsive service and a laggy one.

GDPR, data sovereignty and Anti-DDoS

German data-protection law is among the strictest in Europe — and hosting at FRA makes compliance the default, not an effort. The datacenter is ISO 27001-certified and operated by OVHcloud directly, with GDPR-compliant data processing agreements. Anti-DDoS protection is included on every plan with no scrubbed-traffic limit: your server stays reachable under attack, at no extra cost.

Included with every Frankfurt server

Every configuration ships with the basics a production workload needs, already in the monthly price: Anti-DDoS protection, a dedicated IPv4 address with geolocation, full root access, rescue mode and a standard-issue ISO library to reinstall your OS in minutes. Reinstalls, reverse DNS and automated reboots run from the OVHcloud control panel, and the full server API lets you script provisioning the same way you script the rest of your infrastructure. Monitoring and alerting come included, so you get notified before your users do when a disk or a service misbehaves.

What people run on a Frankfurt dedicated server

Bare-metal hosting: full root access, no virtualization layer — your website, API or database gets 100% of the hardware. Game servers: the Rise-GAME line pairs high-clock Ryzen CPUs with low-latency DE-CIX connectivity for Minecraft, CS2 and Valheim communities. Virtualization and labs: with up to 1024 GB of RAM, a single Rise server hosts an entire VM lab or CI fleet. Wondering how budget dedicated servers compare? Read our dedicated server pricing guide.
